I think you'll have to handle this by using individual rules as opposed to the chained filetype approach because you override the XML options otherwise:

I haven't tested this... but perhaps you could look at this approach?

Did you create your rules by configuring the html-control rule you created?  It's not clear because the UI is awful and is missing any indication that you need to do anything else.  But you now need to click on the rule and then configure:

Even when you've done this you'll find some other funny's:

1. when you add the rule there is nowhere to confirm it so you must close it
2. after closing it there still won't be any evidence that you actually added anything

So you need faith ;-)  But if you click back on configure you'll see the rules are still there.

Not great... but perhaps this is what you're missing?

Here is what I did.

I clicked on 'Confugure' and then added the regex for tags. But it doesn't work the way I want. Here are the parser rules where under 'Context' for <target> elements I added the 'HTML control' structure information.

The length limitation works, but not the embedded processor for html content:

I think the only way we can help here is to see a sample file from you so we can try it.  It's impossible to comment on your rules and regex without seeing the context.  If you can provide a sample, so just a small file with a couple of relevant segments in it would be great.
