Check the language used in the files you are creating the projects for before you create the project.  You must be handling bilingual files of some sort where the source languages are already set so it's down to you to prepare for the projects you're working on.

If you create project templates for the different flavours you could make it faster and easy to manage with all the appropriate resources attached.

But if I use the 'browse' function in the Welcome window to select the files, at what point do I change the project settings? As soon as I've selected the files, I see the error message. I usually know which agencies send BE files and which send NL but is there no way to set either NL-BE or NL-NL as acceptable source languages?

Even if I create different templates, I think I can only select them after I've selected the files using the 'browse' function, i.e. once the error message has come up?

ok... I see your problem now.  I suggest you don't use the welcome view.  That's great for newbies and for "selling" the concept of ease, but actually it carries several disadvantages, particularly for an experienced or busy project manager.

The best way to work (in my opinion) is to use Ctrl+N as this simply brings up the wizard and you can set whatever you need.  If you use the Welcome view it takes the default template to start with until you change it, but this means that as you are trying to add files first you see the error message before you get the chance to change it.  Only a problem with bilingual files... but a problem nonetheless unless you realise what template will be used before you create the project.
