More ways of copying a TM match to the active segment?

Does anyone know if there is a way to copy a match to an active segment without overwriting the existing translation that I would like to keep?  For example, I get a 95% match where the difference is only one word and a colon in the new segment (Note: identical translation from the TM).  I would like to be able to attach the match after I type the translation of "Note:".

I also wonder if I can only copy a TM match in plain text without copying the tags in the match.  In most cases, the tags in the match are different from the new segment and it's time-consuming to delete these tags manually.

Thank you so much for your suggestions.

  • First question: Directly not possible. However, you can switch to Translation results view using keyboard, select the match (CTRL+A), press CTRL+C for copy and then get back to the text with keyboard, where you paste the copied text by CTRL+V.

Second question: When match is inserted, press CTRL+A and CTRL+Space bar subsequently. This will remove the whole formatting (i.e. tags) from the target segment.

  • Hi Jerzy, thank you again for sharing your expertise! The copy and paste method does work, but I couldn't figure out how to use keyboard to quickly switch between the editor and the translation results window. Is there a keyboard combo for this function?
For my second question, Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Space did not work, but the straight Ctrl+Alt+Space suggested by Paul did! I use Ctrl+Space to switch between Chinese/English input methods, and that's probably why Ctrl+Space does not do the job.
