After adding a translation to a large TM, the latest segments were not listed in the TM View, at the end on the last page.
If I do a search for a phrase in one of the new segments, the segment is listed,
with a segment number that is higher than the last segment shown when I click on the "go to last page" icon.

Might also be worth making sure the TM has been "upgraded".

I have run the "Update main TM", and I only opened the TM in TM View afterwards.
The point is, when I am in the TM View and click on the "go to last page" icon, none of the new segments are shown here, at the end.
But I can find segments from the new translation in the TM, when I run a search for a phrase. The search result is just a single segment
with a higher segment number than the last one listed, not the whole page of 1000 segments.
If each segment is assigned a line number in chronological order, the new segments would be added at the end.

Numbering doesn't work like this in such an orderly fashion. It's a simple database and numbers can be removed when you delete, overwritten sometimes, and they can be added. I don't think it makes a lot of sense to try to understand how each number is being allocated against each TU, the most important thing is you have your TUs. If you do want to know more I suggest you learn a little about sqlite perhaps?

Is there a way to search for a segment by its number in the TM View, to find where the segment is in the pages?
Or would you have to export the TM into a simpler format to do this?
It would be useful to list the segments chronologically as well.
You can only search by the content.
