Hard to tell as we don't know what you're doing!

• Did you make the change in your filetype settings before you created your project?
• Are you using a project template to create your projects that perhaps doesn't have this option set?
• Which type of Word document is it?
• Can you share a screenshot of what you see when the file is opened?  Just a couple of segments before and after the text with the hyperlink.
• Can you share a snippet of the file with the hyperlink in it?  So copy the file, delete everything in the document apart from a couple of sentences before and after the hyperilnk.  Anonymise the text in Word first so you can safely share it.

It was just another good ol' case of the general options not being applied to an existing project.
