How can split segments in TM

Question

Hi experts,
Is there a way to split segments in my TM (either by exporting to TMX or anyhow else) or a setting for Studio to read multiple sentences within a single segment as individual segments. I mean that, in a newly received file, I have three separate segments, which previously were a single 3-sentense segment. So far I have to use concordance search to find translation, but probably there is a checkbox or workaround for that? Thank you.

A simpler wording: There is a checkbox 'Apply better match if found in TM after merging segments'. Is there a checkbox like 'Apply better match if found in TM after splitting segments'?

 I guess exporting to TMX is the first step. Then you have a bilingual document. 
 The next step is to segment both source and target and then to align a target segment to each source segment, and that's the tricky bit. 
 If your TM has very good sentence/segment parity, this should work well and you can do it automatically, but it can be problematic if you have translations like this: 
 1. Hello World. 
 2. It's a nice day today. 
 3. We are all happy. 
 translated into: 
 1. Hello World, it's a nice day today and we're all happy. 
 It can cause problems. 
 What will surely cause problems are translations like: 
 1. Hello World, we are all happy. 
 2. After all, it's a nice day.

Hi Stepan Konev 
 I'm sorry... I didn't read your initial post properly... 
 You can export the TM to TMX then create a project from it using the TMX filetype definition here: 
 https://appstore.sdl.com/language/app/file-type-definition-for-tmx/317/ 
 That should give you the opportunity to split and merge as you wish, once you have the TMX open as an sdlxliff. 
 Then you can create a new TM and import the sdlxliff to that. 
 You may need to adjust settings to get this working the way you want it, for example export to TMX as 'text only' if the tags are different between the old client format and the new.

Hi Stepan Konev 
 Here's what I do if I want to split a single translation unit (TU) in a TM... 
 I create a project containing a simple text file containing the Source TU text that I want to split. 
 In the Editor window, I split the SDLXLIFF segment into the required amount of segments and then I translate and confirm those segments to the TM. The TM will then contain the number of individual TUs that correspond to the individual segments that I have just translated. 
 Then I can delete the TU that I wanted to split, either via Concordance in Editor, or with the TM open in the Translation Memories view. 
 Obviously if you have LOTS of TUs that you want to split, this method may be too time-consuming.
