Using Yandex MT via Intento MT plugin

Hi guys

I did some reading and it seems as though the only way to use Yandex with Trados is to bring it in via the Intento MT plugin.
However, when registering an Intento account I noticed that they force you to spend a minimum of $25/month upfront to have an account (or, essentially, to use the plugin).

That doesn't make sense to me, because the actual MT provider, e.g. Yandex in this case, is charging per character, so they would be charging you depending on how much you use the service and then Intento would be charging a flat fee of minimum $25/month as well.

Am I understanding this correctly or not? I wouldn't want to pay more money than necessary.

Yandex has given me a 60-day trial period. For me to use Yandex in Trados I'd have to do so via the Intento plugin.
That means I'd have to pay $50 for the "free" 60-day trial from Yandex (which doesn't make business sense at all).

I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.

  • I agree with you... makes little sense to have to pay for a trial.  I guess the solution is for someone to build a plugin to Yandex directly.  The options for this are as follows:

    1. Yandex build the plugin and make it available through our appstore
    2. RWS AppStore Developers build the plugin
    3. Any developer who has an interest can build the plugin

Right now the RWS AppStore developers have quite a lot of work prioritised and won't get to this for some time, so the first and the third options would be the way for you to investigate.  We have plenty of example apps along with their source code for an MT provider and it's not a difficult plugin to build.  So if Yandex or any other interested developer wants t have a go we can certainly point them in the right direction.
