Trados Project Package problem (sdlppx) - Read only files not to include in the Trados Return Package (sdlrpx)

Hello, I have a problem with a Project Package provided by the customer.

When I open it and I access to one of the files to go to the Editor, I get a Windows saying that:

One or more files selected by the customer are read only and that the changes will not be included in the Trados Return Package.

I never had this problem before, how may I solve this?

PS: I see Trados is informing me about an error in the messages Window, it says the original document was created with Word 2007! a software from 14 years ago! so it is telling me that the Saving feature is not available. Any idea about how may I fix this?

  • Hello ,

It is always recommended that you provide relevant screenshots and the full error stack so we can get a better picture of what might be happening.

It is possible the client has included reference files only in the package and these are not meant to be translated.

It is also worth noting, when you send a return package, this will in most cases, only included the translated sdlxliff and not all the other resources contained within the original package.

  • Hello Steven,

I have found a way to solve this problem. SDLPPX files are compressed files and you can open them with Winrar, Winzip or 7Zip. Basically, you decompress the project into a temporary folder and there, you'll have all the SDLXLIFF files. With those files you can generate a new project, perfectly fixed. It will be empty, but no worries because you can rescue the TM where you have the back up, so basically you create a new project decompressing the defective project and taking the translation files from there (SDLXLIFF), then you load those files when creating the new project, and then, you load also the TM and Bingo, you have created a new project based on the last one with everything fixed. I did a how to guide, but it is in Spanish and I don't have time to translate it because I'm working in 3 projects at the same time so I don't have time for anything else. If you find it okay, I can post my guide here in Spanish and if needed, someone could just translate it.
