Terminological databases (orange mark and blue marks)

Hello, I don't understand very well how terminological databases are working.

In the source column sometimes I see a blue mark (blue underline) for some words, I think Trados is underlining in blue the abbreviations or what it thinks they are abbreviations. Okay, now I see the upper underline in orange which is for the terms registered in the terminological database file.

The problem is some words I have introduced in the terminological database, are not underlined in orange, as they should, they are underlined in blue and when the words are underlined in blue, then, these words are not shown in the Window with the recognized terms. Why is this happening and what are those blue underlines? How may I control the blue underline in certain words?

Please, see the screenshot

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing source column with words underlined in blue and orange. Annotations question the blue underlines and lack of orange underlines for certain terms.

  • Hello ,

Segments in the source that have 'blue' underlines are 'placeables' ie elements that are placed in the target, rather than having the need to be manually translated.

Example of these are web addresses, dates, times etc.

The following documentation describes 'Placeables' in more detail

  • Aha, okay, so basically Trados is understanding those underlined texts in blue as accronyms and it is underlining them in blue, because Trados thinks they don't need translation.

Okay, but there are some accronyms, for instance, PX that are present in the terminological database to suggest me a translation result, however I don't get a translation result because Trados treat it as an accronym and underline it in blue, despite that term "PX" is also present in the terminological database.

How may I force Trados to recognize it as a term present in the terminological database, to underline it in orange and show me the translation result?
