No valid files for retrofit, translation memory not found, dependency file not found

Hi,

Studio makes me so sad/mad today, tons of error messages (not just today) that make life hard.

Error message in Trados Studio stating 'No Valid Files for Retrofit. The file contains track changes, TQAs and comments and the Retrofit task cannot be applied until these issues are solved or removed.'

I´ve reviewed and accepted all changes so not sure where to go from here.

I also constantly get the error message (in every file these days) that my TM apparently can´t be found, even though it´s in the same place as it always was, hasn´t moved an inch since added as TM.

And then last but not least annoying, the old "dependency file not found" message. What is happening?
Thanks for your input, much appreciated!

  • Hello ,

It sounds as though there are a number of issues here and the installation is becoming corrupt.

I would first suggest you ensure that both Studio and MultiTerm are added to your AV exceptions list.

    https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000005759

The issues with dependency file is often due to the source file being too large to be embedded in the sdlxliff.

    https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000001543

I would also suggest removing the TM from the project, then doing a repair/reset

    https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000001414

Then add the TM back into the project.

Please let us know if the resolves the issues.

  • Thank you for your response Steven,
I´m sorry to say that none of these options seem available to me.
    - There is no repair option when I click on Trados Studio 2021 SR1 in Apps and Features
    - The paths suggested to add as exclusion to the antivirus programme does not exist
Screenshot of a Windows file explorer window showing user folder contents in German, including directories such as Desktop, Downloads, and Documents, but no AppData folder visible.
It´s in German, but there´s no equivalent to AppData etc when I go to user/username...

  • Hello ,

This is an issue that many users face (trying to find the AppData folder as its hidden by default)

Simply in File Explorer- go to VIEW and then enable Hidden Items- you will then see the AppData folder

File Explorer window showing the View tab selected and Hidden Items checkbox checked, revealing the AppData folder.

In regards to the rair via the control panel/ Programs and Features, you need to select the correct option -

Right click Studio- to get the following option

Programs and Features window with a list of installed programs, Trados Studio 2021 highlighted and the UninstallChange option visible.

Click Uninstall/Change- then agree to changes being made and then you will see the following-

Dialog box for SDL Trados Studio with options to Uninstall or Repair the application.

Now click Repair and you should be ok now.

  • Thanks again Steven, the file explorer thing has worked.

The repair/change ("Ändern") option is not active in my Apps and Features, all I can do is reinstall, but I doubt that this will solve the problem as I´ve reinstalled it recently and nothing has changed.

Screenshot of the Apps and Features window showing Trados Studio 2021 SR1 installed on 05.08.2021 with version number 16.1.4.4094. The 'Change' button is labeled 'Andem' and is greyed out, indicating it is not active.

With regards to the dependency file issue, I usually don´t work with packages but simple word or pdf files that aren´t all that large. The path that it shows in the error message does lead to some temp folder, which should be solved by the antivirus exceptions I hope. If it´s not, can I simply click on browse for the dependency file and then go to the word or pdf file (which is not in a temp folder, so a different path than suggested)?

    Thanks heaps teach pixie :-)
