Character limitation various columns excel

Dear all,

I am sometimes confronted to an issue in trados.

I receive excel files with character limitation in various columns.

Ex: Column B 10 words

Column D: 160 words

Column F: 220 words

and so on until column X

I cannot seem to display this in trados (QA checked and bilingual file limitation option do not help in this case) so I always have to compare the translation against the source file with is very laborious and time consuming.

I was wondering if anyone knows any solution around here?

Thank you!

Alexanda

  • You won't be able to do this automatically unless you rearrange the content to be in single columns and then put everything back afterwards.  Not sure how labour intensive that would be, but the automated QA checks might make the prep time worth it?

Alternatively take a another look at the Bilingual Excel and do something like this:

Trados Studio screenshot showing the DSI Viewer application with a highlighted suggestion to add context or put the count as a comment.

If you use the DSI Viewer application from the appstore you can see this information in real time in Trados Studio as you work.  Then you just have to compare the segment counts against this info in front of you and at least you don't have to keep referring to Excel and see where you are.  Might be good even though you will need to do this for each column separately unless you move into one column.
