Issues with REVERSE TMs

Hi guys,

I'm experiencing issues with reverse TMs.

I've translated a file from ITA to ENG, but now that I've fed the ENG file back into Trados, the ITA version doesn't pop up automatically.

This are my TM settings in the project:

Trados Studio project settings window showing Translation Memories and Automated Translation tab with three listed TMs for ITA to ENG, all active with checkmarks.

Please advise, I'm at a loss.

Thank you

Alessio

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I'd already read the article but it's not helpful to my case.

I don't know if it's a settings' issue, because fundamentally the TMs seem to be working, however, I have so far three scenarios:

    - if I create two brand new documents, one in ENG and one in ITA (say, of only one sentence each and its corresponding translation in the other document), if I feed any of them into Trados, the TMs and AnyTMs seem to be working in both ways;

    - if I feed an ENG document (previously translated into ITA and justified in Trados), the ITA translation will automatically populate 100%, so the TMs is definitely working; however, if I feed the same ITA document back into Trados, the corresponding ENG version will not populate; it would remain at 0%.

    - for some other instances, instead, Trados won't auto-populate neither the ITA nor the ENG version, though they were definitely translated using Trados in at least one direction!

Please advise, I'm really at a loss here

Isn't it possible to do a screen share by any chance?

    Thank you very much!

    Alessio

  • When you say this:

however, if I feed the same ITA document back into Trados, the corresponding ENG version will not populate; it would remain at 0%.

Presumably you have created a new project in the opposite direction and fed the ITA document into it?  Just checking.

for some other instances, instead, Trados won't auto-populate neither the ITA nor the ENG version, though they were definitely translated using Trados in at least one direction!

Perhaps worth checking to see whether you used a Project TM or not.  If you did it's quite possible you have not updated the translation memories properly.

  • Hi Paul,

Yes, I've created a new project in the opposite direction and fed the ITA document into it.

Yes, all TMs are set on the Project Settings, however, they're all ticked, upgraded and updated.

I think the problem lays somehow with the updating of the AnyTMs.

    Please see the screenshot:

Screenshot showing two Trados Studio project settings with .anytmreverse files, the first with a file size of 7,040 KB.

for the above language pair, the dimension of the .anytmreverse is slightly larger than the actual one, which I believe should be the case.

    Whereas here:

Screenshot displaying two Trados Studio project settings with .anytmreverse files, the second with a file size of 19,240 KB.

the .anytmreverse is smaller than the actual one.

    How do I rectify that?

    Please advise,

    Thank you
