"Object reference not set to an instance of an object": TM finds <90% matches in the concordance but does not supply them as translation results

Hello support,

I get the above error message not as a dialog box that keeps me from working but as an error in the message list. The full message reads: "An error has occurred while using the translation provider [TM name]: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Since it's only in the list there is no further details.

I am working with SDL Trados Studio 2019 Freelance under German Windows 10 Pro.

I am using two TMs on this project and get this message for both of them. Only one of them is set to be updated while I work.

I can work and I can write segments into the TM and I can use concordance search - but Studio does not supply high matches as a translation suggestion. This is bad, impractial and time-consuming and might have a negative effect on the translation quality and consistency.

I made sure that both TMs have been upgraded (they had been before, in fact, but I repeated that), I created a new project, I exported the TMs and imported the tmx files into fresh TMs - nothing works. As soon as I start working in my file I get these error messages.

What can I do to fix this?

Thanks, Katja

  • Hi ,

    thanks again.

Okay, so someone else who is using Studio 2019 had the same error message in a different context. I am not sure how this information would help me. I tried what is suggested there.

I am now working on a different project - different files, different TMs, and no problem whatsover.

As for reviewing Fine Tune and Performance settings: I hadn't made any changes there, so I'm not sure what I would need to change since everything was fine as it was. I hadn't changed anything since the last project for that particular client, and up to now everything was just fine. Could it be that Trados didn't like this particular source file (a Word file)?
