Could not find a part of the path etc. : How to solve this systematically?

This is a recurrent problem that I have learnt to solve by renaming Folder 16 in the Roaming file of SDL and then do a Restart. The problem is that this error keeps on recurring every time I leave my computer for a few minutes (iddling away).

Could you please advise on a more efficient, long term strategy for this?

I thank you in advance for any enlightenment!

  • I received the following reply by email, why doesn't it appear here?

If this issue occurs only if you leave your computer idle for an extended period of time I would suggest closing Studio and checking if the issue appears only in there conditions.

If yes then you have your solution.

If this issue occurs also in different circumstances then I would suggest to start by deleting the antivirus, Windows provides better protection than any Free antivirus and check if the situation is improved.

My reply is that this answer doesn't address my problem adequately. I knew that already (leaving my computer on a few minutes whilst I answer the door will eventually create Saving problems when I return). What I am after is a solution that bypasses this problem. Why does it happen in the first place? Thanks for your time in any case.

  • Hello , the support ticket is on a separate system, that is why the reply does not appear here.

Please look into adding Trados Studio as an exception to the antivirus, and also add the path C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp\SDLTempFileRegen as an exception to the antivirus. It is possible that during the time Trados is idle, the antivirus locks or removes the temporary files Trados created at that location, so Trados can no longer find them. Also see this article as reference:

    https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000005759

The antivirus, or another 3rd party cleaning tool, or even Windows (if not enough space on C:\ drive) could remove files from Temp folder.

Let me know if this helped.

    Best regards,

  • Hi ,

we have just realized that the cause for the error message "Could not find part of the path ..." when creating a package might often be related to the project being copied or moved from one location to another after creation.

This is related to the settings of the SDLXLIFF file type within the project. Here, you can define the size of the source file until which Studio should embed the file within the SDLXLIFF. If your source file is bigger than the threshold set here, instead of embedding the source file into the SDLXLIFF Studio writes a reference to the location of the source file into the SDLXLIFF. When trying to create a package, Studio uses this reference to look for the source file in order to include it into the package (this was implemented in Cumulative Update 8 for SR1). Since the project was moved, the reference points to the wrong directory and Studio cannot "find part of the path".

So, a solution in these cases would be to set the size threshold for embedding the source file into the SDLXLIFF to the maximum. Then, you will only encounter this error in cases where the source file is bigger than the maximum of 100MB.

  • Interesting Luciano, I will definitely test this theory next time the situation arises. Very great to get more intel on the question!

  • Make sure that the maximum length of the path together with the file name does not exceed 255 characters. Either change the folder structure or shorten the file name, or both.
