Can only open sdlxliff but not word file

Hi everybody,

absolutely desperate. Maybe someone can help?

When I tried to save my translation (Trados 2019) last night I received a failure notice that source file could not be found, followed by a huge amount of numbers and letters (unfortunately did not make a screen shot). Systems told me to upload the source once again. I found it, strangely under :/D and not :/C and tried – might have used the wrong file.

I translated a few more lines, saved and all went well. When I went to word into my trados folder, I could not open the word file – another strange message

  • Error in opening word file
  • Try the following:
  • Check on the data authorizations for this document or disk drive
  • Make sure you have sufficient working memory or storage space
  • Open this file with the restore text converter (D…..) – again drive D – strange!!!!

I can still open sdlXLiff and work in there, but not the word. I already deleted the German target file de-de and saved my Trados translation under a new name, but again the same problem.

Any ideas? I am not an expert in Trados and lost ...

Thanks a lot in advance

  • Not necessarily. You can open the source in Studio or in Word? It is important, that you can open the source in Word. If you can do so, but cannot open the translated Word, do a test:

Create a new project with the source Word, open it for translation, copy all source to target and save as Word. Can you open this Word file?
