Trados Termbank preview window not displaying all possible/similar entries

Dear Community,

When translating, I use termbanks that I add in each of my projects. However, I've noticed that the terminology preview window does NOT display all possible entries.

In my case, the source text says "Isola-torketten", the preview window only displays "Isolator", but my termbank has a dozen terms starting with "isola".

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing the terminology recognition window with only 'Isolator' displayed instead of all 'isola' prefixed terms.

I've tried playing around with the Search parameters, but it either returns no results, or just one (always "Isolator") result.

Screenshot of Trados Studio search settings with sliders for minimum match value and search depth, possibly related to the terminology preview issue.

What can I do to have ALL similar terms displayed in the top right preview window?

Thanks!

Note: I use SDL Trados Studio 2017 Professional - 14.1.10018.54792

  • Most probably all other entries are less than 50% similar to the term "Isola", which is in fact the term for which the termbase has been searched. Isola has 5 letters, your next shortest term is Isolator with 8 terms and a similarity of 62,5%. The next term is Isolation with a similarity of 55%. All other terms are longer and must be excluded in the search. As I have not enough experience to say, if 50% in MultiTerm really works, I would suppose it does not and thus only the "Isolator" is being found.

Please note, that the search in Multiterm itself works differently.

  • Hi ,

This happened frequently in Studio 2017 after you have added quite a number of terms. You might try the following:

    - In Studio, go to Project Settings and remove the termbase from your settings.

    - Close Studio.

    - Make a backup copy of your termbase (just in case the next step fails)

    - Open your termbase in MultiTerm and reorganize it.

    - Then start Studio again and add your termbase to the project settings.

If this does not help, consider exporting the entire termbase to xml, then recreate the termbase using the existing termbase as template. Then, import all entries from the xml file, using the "synchronize on Entry Number" import option.
