Segmentation Rules

Hi,

I want to know the proper segmentation rules for the following case.
The segmentation in the screenshot below was created using the default settings of Segmentation Rules which is not the best one for translators.
(Some translators misunderstood that YY battery is paired with DC 12 V - 14 V max...)
Could you please let me know how I can make the proper segmentation look like the one in red text?Screenshot of Trados Studio showing incorrect segmentation with 'XX battery' paired with 'DC 12 V - 14 V max' instead of 'YY battery'. Highlighted in red is the desired segmentation 'YY battery: DC 14 V - 18 V'.

Thanks,
Kumyoung

  • Hello Paul,

The file is an XLIFF file, this is what is reported in the File Details:
    File Type Identifier XLIFF 1.1-1.2 v 2.0.0.0

If I remember correctly, you cannot use TAGs for the segmentation, but only text.
However, isn't it possible to set the line break TAGs as external tags and thus force Trados to segment the file at those points?
We tried using the "Segmentation hint: May Exclude" option in the Advanced Tag Properties, but it didn't work.

I tried to upload the sample file (.sdlxliff) to this message using the "Image/video/file" menu but I couldn't.
Could you please let me know how I can upload it?

    Thank you,
