With big TM's, Studio is lagging so much I am considering the idea to move on to some other CAT (after about 30 years). This is not practical anymore, and obviously frustrating. How about you?

Can you please confirm where are these TMs stored? Are they saved locally or in a shared drive/cloud?
How large are they? If they exceed 100.000 TUs, it is recommended to split the TMs into smaller sizes, for better performance:

Of course, it's also important to have Studio updated to the latest release, which is Trados Studio 2021 SR2 -16.2.9.9198

While I do have Studio up-to-date, one of the TM's involved in my case is very huge indeed, well over 100.000 TU's. I had never thought of splitting it, I will sure try and keep you posted!
100,000 segments is a pretty small TM and should work very fast. If it is stored locally and delivers slow performance, please check, if it does not need reindexing, reorganization or an upgrade. If all this procedures are done and the performance is still unsatisfactory, make sure, that you have a PC with enough RAM, enough disc space and a powerful processor. For smooth working with Studio you need to store the TMs locally on a fast SSD drive. They should NOT be synchronized with any cloud during working.
