Segmentation rule for line break

Hi,

I have searched the forum and found solutions for the same problem I have, but it won't work.

I have this xml:

XML code in Trados Studio with highlighted text showing 'TEST- with bullet 1- with bullet 2without bullet 1without bullet 2- Antrieb Langstransportboden EINAUS'.

Without segmentation rules I get this:

Trados Studio translation results displaying 'TEST - with bullet 1 - with bullet 2 without bullet 1 without bullet 2 - Antrieb Langstransportboden EINAUS' without segmentation.

Whith this rule...

Trados Studio segmentation rules interface with a rule input field containing a dot symbol before the segment end and 's-ls' after the segment end.

... I get here:

Trados Studio translation results with segmented text showing 'TEST', 'with bullet 1', 'with bullet 2 without bullet 1 without bullet 2', 'Antrieb Langstransportboden EINAUS' on separate lines.

I then tried with this rule to segmet line 3, which has an LF at the end of the line, but it doesn't work.I also tried with \r and \r\n.

Trados Studio segmentation rules interface with a rule input field containing '.n+.' before the segment end and a dot symbol after the segment end.

                            <equipment>TEST
- with bullet 1
- with bullet 2
without bullet 1
without bullet 2
- Antrieb Längstransportboden EIN/AUS</equipment>

      </root>
</data>

I hope the code displays right.

Any idea? Thnx.

Burim

  • Do you see any difference between your version and mine?

    On the rule.. none.

    However we don't know anything else about your setup, for example:

    - version of Trados Studio

    - other segmentation rules that might conflict somehow

    - xml filetype (I used the default with no embedded content and just relied on the TM to check your exact question)

    Why don't you try it with a new TM and only this rule. See if that works. If it does take a deeper look at your TM config. If it doesn't then take a look at your filetype. Try using the default and see if it works, if it does then you now you have a conflict in your rules. If it doesn't and you are not using the latest version of Trados then try it in the latest version.

    Things like that.

  • Hi Paul,

    I use Studio 2021 SR1. I tried with a new TM, but got the same problem.

    I then deacivtated my xml filetype, which I have created o basis of the ones existing I suppose, and Studio chosre „Any xml“ for the project then.

    And: it works fine with Any-xml!?

    I wil check, if I can use this filetype. There must be a reason why I have created another one though (long time ago).

    But I don‘t unterstand, why segmentation rule \s-\s works, but .[\n]+ doesn‘t. And why the filetype plays a role on the rules of the TM?!

    Best regards
