Language pairs with SDL TRADOS Studio 2019

Hi

I need your support to understand the following please:

I've been told that with Trados 2019 I need to use SDL Machine Cloud to be able to translate since I do not have TMemories.

Are all languages pairs allowed? It seems IT-FR are not. See screenshot below please. Could you help me to understand more about this issue please = I need to solve it asap.

Many thanks

BR

Cristina

  • Hi

I wonder who told you that you cannot use translation memories with Trados Studio 2019!

All versions of Trados Studio can use translation memories (TMs), in fact this is the base pillar of the translating process. The capability to use cloud-based TMs has only been added recently.

The second screen you are showing is related to the use of machine translation and not translation memories.

You simply need to create a translation memory for your language pair and select it in the project settings (in the first screen you show under 'Use ...'. There you add your TM to the project by clicking on:

Trados Studio project settings window with 'Create' and 'Use' buttons highlighted. Dropdown menu showing 'File-based Translation Memory' option selected.

If you do not have any TM yet, you can create one by clicking on the button 'Create'.

Hope this helps you to understand how this works and move forward.
