Select All, Editor, Trados 2022

Hi,

When I try to select all segments in the Editor only the first X segments are being selected.

The usual scenario is that I filter some segments using the Advanced Display Filter, so that I can select them all and then lock them. However, the same thing happens when I'm not using any filters. Today, for example, in a file that has approx. 36k segments only the first 8064 segments were selected.

Independently of whether I click on the square in the corner above the first segment or I use the shortcut, not all segments are being selected.

I've noticed this behaviour especially when working with bigger files, especially Excel and Power Point files, and I have a feeling that the number of selected segments is random i.e. I couldn't see any consistency in how many segments are selected each time.

Is this a bug? Any solutions?

  • Hi  ,

    File with 95870 segments - only the first 7601 were selected;

Just to be sure we understand: you are not using any filters before selecting all segments, as the selection would be applied only to the segments in the actual view. I mean: you select all and then the first segments have the yellow background, and remaining segments from some point on wards don't have the yellow background, right?

There is a third option to select all segments. Because I'm running out of ideas, and just out of curiosity, could you please try the following procedure, similar to what we'd do in Excel?

    • Go to the segment #1, and select it (for example, clicking on the left column with the segment number).
    • Go to the last segment in Editor.
    • Press and hold SHIFT key.
    • Select the last segment.
    • Everything should have the yellow background.

    Does it work?

Yes, that is correct. In those two files I mentioned, I didn't apply any filters, otherwise the segment number and the ratio between selected and not selected segments wouldn't mean much.

When I do apply a filter and try to select all (filtered, visible) segments (with a shortcut or the square above the first segment) the same thing happens and not all segments are selected.

Regarding the option to select the first segment, then SHIFT and the last segment - yes, that works well and has always worked well. (But it's not how I want to work. Slight smile)

I'm sorry I can't upload a video, the files I'm working on now are confidential. I will try to find and run a file that I can share.
