Confirming all segments at once

Hi everybody,

It would be great to add a "Confirm all" option to the menu below. Often, at the end of a translation, you have to use the spellchecker and fix some typos or to do some cosmetic adjustments, such as replacing " ' " with " ’ " in the whole document, which can affect many segments, moreover if it is a long translation. Then you have to confirm every modified segment one by one, which can be long. Unless I miss an option somewhere, there is no way to confirm everything at once.

I actually found a solution in the forum, that involves highlighting all the segments, then changing their statuts into "confirmed", then batch updating manually the main TM from the translated file, but it is not really satisfying, since it is not strait forward.

Why not adding a mere Confirm all command in the ribbon?

Trados Studio menu with options to confirm segments individually but no 'Confirm all' option present.

  • Indeed… you should use the ideas site for this. Forum posts aren’t the best place if you want the product managers attention!

  • Here's one way to confirm all segments: Click segment 2, then shift-click segment 1, then press Ctrl-Enter.

  • This would not store your edits though. You have to run the Update TMs batch task. The same effect can be attained when you press Ctrl+Shift+A to select all segments and then change their status to Translated (confirmed but not stored)

  •

It is always a good idea to use the Finalize batch at the end. This way you generate target and update the TM.

When you work with project TMs (as I always do), this is a simple necessity to have your final translations stored in your TM. IMO the habit in working with Studio should be:

    • Open for translation, translate, save
    • Open for revision, make your checks and changes
    • Save copy of the sdlxliff file for tracking of the step done (must be done, if you are ISO certified, can be done for own tracking of work)
    • Accept the changes done, change the status of changed segment to translated
    • Close the file, confirm changing status of all segments
    • Run finalize batch

  • For future reference, I'm adding another solution, as suggested on the Ideas site by  and extended by me...

Quoting Jerzy: "If you use "open for review" and do some corrections, you only need to confirm the corrected segments. When closing the file all untouched segments will be brought to the status "Translation approved". In my opinion this is the correct way to make final corrections after the translation—not in translation, but in review mode.

There is a shortcut to select all segments and you can change the status to whatever you want, but this is obviously already known."

Now my addition: If you open the file in Review mode, when you close it, the following dialog opens:

Trados Studio dialog box asking 'Would you like to complete the review process for this document? This will mark all unreviewed segments as approved.' with options Yes, No, and Cancel. Checkbox for 'Don't ask this question again' is unchecked.

Click 'yes' and the whole file will be confirmed as 'Translation Approved' and updated to the TM. You can tick 'Don't ask this question again' and it will just happen automatically. As you can see, I haven't ticked that box, because sometimes I want to close the file before I have finished proofreading or reviewing it.

    All the best,

  • Yeah, I see you often go like "I don't know why you may need that guys, for any reasons beyond my understanding, because I never do that. Do what I do..."
The workflow you described above is too long and complicated for a simple task like 'confirm all segments'. I should not be surprised if you create a project every time you get a translation assignment. However, I don't mind if you like it. It was just a kind reminder that you should remember to store segments.

  • Actually, Alison's solution better answers my need, since my problem was to reconfirm all segments after a batch search and replace (e.g., of a character) in a large document. I had no problem with individual corrections, where confirming each segment after a individual correction is not an issue.
    Thank you again :-)

  • Thank you Jerzy,
It is the ideal scenario, but I am not sure everybody follows that process in production. :-)

  • You can try to filter segments after your batch edits (by Draft status), select across them all from segment 1 to the last one and press Ctrl+Enter.
