If you only have one file the easiest way to do it is simply press Shift+F12 when the file is open in the Studio Editor.

But can also use batch tasks...

Both of these will do it.  But the downside (for me anyway) is that this action also closes the project and you need to "Revert to SDLXLIFF" to get it all ready to work on gain with all the available features.  You'll find this when you right-click on a file:

I agree, I can't understand the point of reverting to xliff. I only wanted to save to a word document. Still learning!

I think that with the option Export files you won't need to Revert to XLIFF.

Both ways (Export files and Generate Target translations) will provide the final Word document.

I see Export files more an intermediate step while you are translating/reviewing.

I see Generate Target translations when I am happy with the work and I want to create the final version of the translated document. That's why if I needed to continue working on the file, I would need to revert to XLIFF (an automatic step by the way, so you don't really need to worry).
