So the answer is:

MS Word allows embedding of XLS  format, but Trados Studio does not extract it, because it is in the binary format. The Excel object should be embedded as XLSX to resolve this situation.

That sheds some light on the issue! Those who prepare documentation must insert their excel objects as XLSX...well, ok...then,there are 5 options... which one corresponds to the XLSX format?

so I understand that correct embedding of OLEs in word documents from the very beginning can solve this issue. And the correct format is XLSX, right?

Our engineers prepare documentation in DOORs and, yes, when they embed an OLE object the options window I attached above is shown.

So we tried to embed choosing "Microsoft Excel Worksheet" and the output was this:

The table is blank... :(

This is the expected result. You inserted an object, an empty one, the default one.

Tto insert an existing Excel spread-sheet, you can do it from Insert > Object > select the tab Create from file, and browse to select the excel file you want to insert:

If you do it, and the selected spread-sheet has some content, Trados will extract that content.

Jesús Prieto , no way! We tried both options: to embed a newly created table and insert another one from an independent excel file. Trados just does not read it....

Yes, sure!

I just created some dummy Word and Excel documents and I inserted the Excel into the Word document. Then I could see the Excel content in the Word document. From your screen-shot, I think you just inserted an empty Excel document in Word, so nothing was extracted in Trados Studio. But as I said, happy to have a look at your document.

Dear Jesús Prieto , 

looks like the file, whose embeddings Studio could not read was corrupt. Others had .doc extension and simply changing them to .docx solved the problem: all editable embedded excel tables appeared correctly. Thanks for help!!!!!!!!!!
