Measurement recognition error ins Studio 2022

Hello,

Although, measurements like m2 or m3 (the numbers are formatted in superscript) are set in Studio, the number in superscript is missing when I insert the expression:

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing two segments, one with '68717 m' missing the superscript '2' for square meters, and the other correctly displaying '68717 m2' with superscript.

As shown in the screenshot, only 68717 m can be placed in the target segment.

Is there a solution for this?

Sandor

  • But if I add it with the shortcut key the tags are there.  Using the mouse they are not.  I then changed the shortcut key to be Ctrl+Shift+m and this time it works.  Quite tricky I think:

Please note, that the tags are NOT surrounding the superscript number, which would still be strange, but at least would follow some logic. In your case the tags after using the shortcut do surround also the meter and the parenthesis... And this is really strange, as it seems to have applied some font change there.

The symbols (these are NOT numbers) ² and ³ are present on a German keyboard and can be inserted using AltGr plus the number 2 or 3 from the number row above the letters. m² and m³ (a meter with a symbol ² or ³) is being recognized by Studio AFAIR. The combination m<superscript>2</superscript> is not treated as measurement unit, as it is an  alphanumeric string.

This said, I mus admit, that the measurement recognition in Studio is working very reliable for me. To make my life easier I have created some auto correct rules to convert m2 to m² or m3 to m³. Also for 1/4 to ¼ and similar. I also use the option to insert a non-breaking space between number and measurement unit, which works properly too. However, to make sure all measurement units are separated with a non-breaking space from the numbers, I use a search and replace pattern with regex, which does the work for me.

  • tags are NOT surrounding the superscript number, which would still be strange,

I agree it’s weird… I believe there is some formatting around the letter m (CTRL+SHIFT+SPACE should remove it).

Both input methods work in the same way:

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing two lines of text. The first line reads 'Mouse: superindex: x squared plus x cubed' with 'superindex' highlighted in blue. The second line reads 'Alt+01789: superindex: x squared plus x cubed' with 'superindex' highlighted in blue. Both lines are under the heading 'WordprocessingML v. 2'.

I think this is expected way. Try removing formatting around letter m as mentioned above.

  • Thanks

I think it's probably my ineptitude attempting to use my laptop without a numeric keypad... something I have always had a poor relationship with!
