Import of *MT.tmx in Trados Studio 2022 results in empty TM.

I have just installed Trados Studio 2022 as a replacement for my 2019 version. My first translation was sent with 2 tmx-files containing results from machine translation. An import of these files did not result in other than an empty TM.

I followed instructions from another thread and was able to get a result - BUT in Studio the translation does not appear with the mark AT to signal that it concerns a machine translation.

I can tell you that the tmx-content displayed correctly in Studio 2019.

XML code snippet showing DOCTYPE and header information with 'creationtool' labeled as 'TRADOS Translator's Workbench for Windows' and 'adminlang' set to 'EN-US'.

Trados Studio interface displaying a bilingual text comparison with missing 'AT' mark for machine translation on the right side.

So your problem is not that you import and you get an empty TM?  You solved that one?  It's just that you no longer see an AT status for a TMX created off a machine translation project.  You have highlighted the original translation memory format attribute, which is Translators Workbench and not machine translation specifically.  The important thing is that the creationID is "MT!".

However, this will only work in later versions of Studio if the SDLTM was created in an older version of Studio.  The reason for this is that a few years ago a decision was taken to change the import behaviour so that the act of importing was essentially considered an approval on your part for the segments to be used as a Translation Memory... ie. they are now approved and not just unedited MT.

The best solution I can suggest is you penalise the TM you created from this TMX so it always gets a 99% match or lower.  IF you have imported the TMX into an existing SDLTM already then create a filter mismatch penalty so you get the results like this when they come from TUs created by MT!:

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing a translation result with a 99% match score and a filter mismatch penalty of -1% for machine translation.

Screenshot of Trados Studio project settings with a filter penalty named 'MT!' set to a penalty of 1 for translation units created by 'MT!' in the Translation Memory and Automated Translation settings.
