I guess one reason, assuming you are doing everything correctly, could be working with your project on OneDrive or some other network drive.  If you do use a drive like this try working on your local drive in a folder that is not synchronised with whatever network drive you are using.

Interestingly, I have just heard from one of the LSP I am working for that several of their freelancers have been experiencing this issue of late in Studio, when I had to explain to them this morning why all segments are now perfect matches. So I gather it is a bug/corruption on the side of SDL rather than to do with my installation. Anything else would be an extreme coincidence.

There is NO such bug. There must be other reasons for this problem. Check your PC configuration, if there are no programs emptying the Windows TMP folder on automated way. Other possibility could be user rights, if Studio hasn't been installed as admin.

However, typically the problem is caused by a software emptying the TMP folder when Studio works or by a crash of Studio.

Thanks. I will look into it further a bit later. Obviously it could be argued that storing such important files in the TMP Folder of Windows for any programme to work properly is not the best to begin with anyway.

Files are not stored in the temp folder permanently.  We use this folder for the same reasons any application uses it. :

1. Temporary Storage: The temp folder is a designated location for storing temporary files. These files are created and used by programs for a variety of purposes, such as caching data or holding intermediate results during processing.

2. Easy Access: The temp folder is typically located in an easily accessible location on the computer, making it a convenient place for software applications to store files that need to be accessed frequently or quickly.

3. Automatic Cleanup: Windows is designed to automatically clean up the contents of the temp folder periodically, ensuring that files that are no longer needed are deleted. This can help prevent the accumulation of unnecessary files on the computer, which can slow down performance over time.

This helps to prevent security issues that might arise if programs were allowed to write to other parts of the file system.

Overall, the temp folder provides a convenient and safe location for software applications to store temporary files that are needed during normal operation.

This is also why I asked you about OneDrive or some other network facility.  Software such as OneDrive could use the temp folder while synchronizing files. When files are synchronized, OneDrive may need to temporarily download or cache files in the temp folder before uploading them to the cloud or downloading them from the cloud.  If you have network connectivity issues, synchronization errors, or conflicts between different versions of files then the problem you have described could come about.

Often I have asked users this question and the answer has been similar, "no, I only work on my local drive".  Now I'm sure you are doing just this, but sometimes users don't realise that they might be working locally but they are still working on a location that is being synchronised with OneDrive.  This is a very common problem these days as almost every computer you buy uses this sort of mechanism by default.
