Error: Invalid access to memory location

Getting a new error from Studio when I do preps.

Error: Invalid access to memory location

Error message in Trados Studio stating 'Failed to add C:Usersusername.pptx to the project. Invalid access to memory location.' with options to click 'Yes' or 'No'.

Several other users are getting same error.

Have already tried the steps to reset Trados Studio basic settings.

Please help.

Several other users are getting same error.

Based on what you have told us so far... if multiple users are receiving the "Invalid access to memory location" error when trying to access the same file, it suggests a more systemic issue. The problem could be due to one of the following reasons:

    1. Corrupted File: The file itself could be corrupted. This might be due to a software bug, a system crash while the file was being written, or even hardware issues like a faulty hard drive.

    2. Permission Issues: There could be an issue with the file permissions. If the users don't have the correct permissions to access the file, they could get this error.

    3. File Locking: In some cases, a file might be "locked" by one process, preventing other processes from accessing it. If the file is being locked improperly, it could cause this error.

    Some questions:

    • what version of the software are you using?  Be specific... the current version is Trados Studio 2022 - 17.0.6.14902
    • are all users working with the same version?
    • are you sharing files on a network drive?

It seems unlikely to be a Studio specific problem, but perhaps you can comment on this before we look elsewhere?

    Thank you Paul.

    Version is Trados Studio 2021 SR2 - 16.2.12.9338

    All the same version

They files are on users local desktop.

    Did you look at these?

    • Corrupted File: The file itself could be corrupted. This might be due to a software bug, a system crash while the file was being written, or even hardware issues like a faulty hard drive.

    • Permission Issues: There could be an issue with the file permissions. If the users don't have the correct permissions to access the file, they could get this error.

Seems odd you all have this problem with this file.  Can I see the file?

  • Thank you - some more details I hope will help.

The error is intermittent between projects. It is not dependent on the same file, nor any certain file types.

It happens intermittently in the following circumstances at different times:

    1. It sometimes happens if/when dragging and dropping of files into Studio when creating a project.
    2. It sometimes happens when if/when adding files through browser when creating a project.
    3. It sometimes happens after files are successfully added and Studio starts the first step of project creation. At this step it attempts to copy the files to the project location, but the same error appears (error text is the same just in a different format)
    4. It happens when we attempt to export translated file(s) from Studio to a local folder (any folder).
