Trados 2021 will not load packages

Trados 2021 will not load packages.
Doesn't matter how I attempt to load it, either by clicking the package or selecting it from within Trados.

After attempting to load a package (by either clicking it on the desktop or selecting from within Trados), the typical small rectangular "One moment..." window appears in the center of the screen then disappears in about 10 seconds.
A wheel spins for a while but eventually the application displays Not Responding at the top and you have to force quit it.
The system was working fine 4 hours ago and I have had no problems with it.
And I did not make any changes to the operating system at all.

I tried upgrading to SP2 (I was running SP1).
I downloaded the installer and installed SP2) and it does exactly the same thing.

I have tried everything I can think of.
(Thank heaven I have Trados 2014 (which works fine) so I can still work.)

Anybody had this problem?

  • Hello Don,

I understand that you're experiencing issues with Trados Studio 2021 not loading packages and becoming unresponsive. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Ensure your Windows is up to date by checking for updates manually. Install any available updates and restart your computer. Repeat this process until there are no more updates.

Step 2: Repair your Trados Studio installation by following the instructions in this article: Repairing your installation of Trados Studio.

Step 3: Check that you have the .NET Framework 4.8 installed, as it is required for Studio 2021. You can refer to this article on how to determine which .NET Framework versions are installed.

Step 4: Refresh your .NET Framework installation by turning Windows features on or off, as described in the context provided.

Step 5: If the crash occurs at a specific segment, check if your Translation Memory (TM) is corrupted by disabling TMs one by one and testing for the crash. If a corrupted TM is identified, you'll need to recreate it.

Step 6: Similarly, if the crash occurs at a specific segment, check if your Termbase is corrupted by disabling termbases one by one and testing for the crash. If a corrupted termbase is identified, you'll need to recreate it.

    Additional recommendations:

    - Ensure your translation resources are stored locally on your computer, rather than on a shared drive, network, or cloud-based file-sharing service.

    - Reset Trados Studio to its default settings if you suspect a problem with the installation (loss of functionality besides crashing). You can refer to this article on resetting Trados Studio to default state.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, or if you require further assistance, you can contact the RWS Support Team through the RWS Gateway for customers with a support contract or request support through the Web Form for TP Licensing & Installation Issues.

    Best regards,
