Cursor to remain within segments editor window after confirmation

Hello everyone,

I have a question about Trados editor. When I use the Ctrl+Enter shortcut to move to the next non-confirmed segment, sometimes the editor cursor switches to another window like the Preview or Fragment Matches window. This is inconvenient because I have to click back to the editor window to continue typing my translation.

Is this a design flaw? If not, is there a way to instruct the program to keep the cursor in the active editor window at all times?

  • Hello,

Based on your description, it seems like the focus is shifting to other windows due to certain settings in Trados Studio. Here's how you can adjust these settings to keep the cursor within the segments editor window:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and go to the "File" menu, then select "Options".

Step 2: In the Options window, navigate to the "Editor" section.

Step 3: Under the "Automation" subsection, uncheck the box that says "Perform search if the TM lookup returns no results". This will prevent the Concordance Search window from popping up and stealing focus when there are no matches found in the Translation Memory.

Step 4: Still in the Options window, navigate to the "Language Pairs" section, then "All Language Pairs", and finally "Translation Memory and Automated Translation".

Step 5: In this section, adjust the Fragment Matching to a higher character count, such as 8 characters. This will effectively disable Fragment Matching, preventing the Fragment Matches window from stealing focus.

Step 6: Also in this section, uncheck the box that says "Enable fragment matching in this project". This will further ensure that the Fragment Matches window does not pop up.

Step 7: Click "OK" to save your changes and close the Options window.

These steps should help keep the cursor within the segments editor window after confirming a segment. If you're still experiencing issues, it might be worth checking if there are any updates available for Trados Studio, as this could potentially resolve the problem.

  • I find the recommendations useless as a translator doesn't want the program to shift his focus on any other window during translation, regardless the settings. There is no reason to make other window, especially the Preview window active. It seems natural and intuitive for humans, but not for TradosAI or developers

  • Hello,

I understand your frustration. It seems like the issue you're experiencing is not due to a specific setting but rather how Trados Studio is designed to function. The software is designed to provide as much information as possible to assist in the translation process, which includes automatically showing different windows like the Preview or Fragment Matches.

However, I understand that this can be disruptive to your workflow. While there's no direct setting to prevent the focus from shifting to other windows, you can try the following workaround:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and go to the "View" menu.

Step 2: In the drop-down list, uncheck the options for "Preview" and "Fragment Matches". This will hide these windows from the Editor view.

Step 3: When you need to use these features, you can manually open them by going back to the "View" menu and checking their respective options.

This way, the focus will remain in the Editor window as you work on your translations.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.
