XTRF integration - error on creation of project: Error during creation of project: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Hello Everyone,

Our XTRF account is integrated with Studio 2021 and XTRF has just prepared for us a couple of new workflows with Trados integration (+ deepl in some cases). All of the new workflows fail at the project creation stage with a classic error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

We've contacted XTRF for this issue and after a while they replied that the issue lies within Trados. We've tried resetting this Trados instance, we've also tried running a project on the remote desktop, where it's saved and project creation went well (both with deepl plugin and without it).

Did anyone have the same issue? Slight smile

Best regards,

Gabi

We've contacted XTRF for this issue and after a while they replied that the issue lies within Trados. We've tried resetting this Trados instance, we've also tried running a project on the remote desktop, where it's saved and project creation went well (both with deepl plugin and without it).

So why is the issue with Trados? Surely they provided more information than this?  Based on your post we know this:

    1. The project is fine when you only work with Trados
    2. XTRF created some new workflows for you and also a Trados integration (we definitely did not do this)
    3. Using the workflow in XTRF you get an object reference error

The error message you have provided is simply far too generic to tell us anything and XTRF must surely have some reason for thinking this problem lies with Trados?  It just tells us something hasn't been created yet... but we don't know what.

For example, imagine you have a remote control (which we'll call the "reference") for a toy drone (which we'll call the "object" or "instance"). When you press a button on the remote control, you expect the drone to fly, turn, or perform some action.

However, if you've never taken the drone out of its box or if there's no drone at all, but you still press a button on the remote control, the remote has nothing to control. It's trying to control a drone, but there's no drone there for it to communicate with.

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" is the computer's way of saying, "Hey, you're trying to use this remote control, but there's no drone connected to it." In programming, this error often means you're trying to access or manipulate something that hasn't been created or initialized yet.

Only XTRF can tell you what that something is and then we might be able to help via the developer forum (if they are happy to engage at that level?):

  • Hello Paul,

Thank you for such a quick response and this very simple and understandable description of my problem Slight smile

You're right, there's not enough information for you to be able to help me in any way.

All I know for now is what you've enumerated + the fact that we use the correct Trados agent version, which should work smoothly with XTRF - not much at all.

I'll try to ask them what the suspect is not working and why they think the issue may be on the Trados side of things.

I'll also encourage them to reach out via developer forum (don't think that's going to happen, though...)

Thanks again, I'll let you know if I get any more information Slight smile

    Best regards,

    Gabi
