Did you create yourself the project via the New Project wizard or was it a single document project? If the latter, you can’t add more files to it. Did you save Trados Studio (with CTRL+S or clicking on the Save icon)? If you didn’t, the project might not have been actually saved, so next time you open Studio is not in the project list.

I don’t know but Trados Studio crashes now more than ever, so ensure you save your work every X minutes.

If you saved your work (as mentioned above), the SDLPROJ file should be on your mac. Search for files with this extension, sort by date and you'll find it.

Otherwise, did you add a translation memory to your project? If so, that SDLTM file should be in your mac. Search for files with this extension, sort by date and you will find it. With that TM found, at least you should be able to create a new project with the same file and use the TM to pre-translate that file.

Last, ensure your project folders are not in synced by OneDrive, Dropbox or similar tools, as they cause issues (reasons mentioned here:

Yes, unfortunately, I must have created it as a single document instead of a project.

Time-wise, this has been an expensive lesson. I do save it, have been saving t every time I stop for the day because I know it might be several days before I have a chance to work on it again. The odd thing was that it let me load those new files after starting Studio yesterday, but when I tried to open the file that I had in progress (69% complete), that error popped up and literally immediately disappeared along with the file and the project. I couldn´t even find the file anywhere on my computer. (yes, I searched those extensions).

When I went back in history to the first time I had opened it as a pptx before loading it to Trados, it told me the file had been deleted. But it wasn´t in my trash or recycling anywhere. I actually had to go to my iDrive account to recover it in its original (untranslated) form.

Thank you for letting me know about the One Drive syncing. That is also something I will need to be aware of. I hadn´t been paying much attention to whether I had anything located on One Drive. So that may have been an issue as well.

I am not going to continue trying to recover the sdl file. I have restarted a new project which includes the files I tried to load yesterday.
