Can't align files in Trados 2019 Freelance anymore

A few days ago, I found out I can't align files in Trados 2019  15.2.8.3007 anymore. When I try to align 2 Word files, the system shows such messages:

1. "Can't open C:/user/[name]/xxxx.sdlalign" (not sure if this is useful, but in this User folder in my PC, I can't see any Align folder - should there be one?)

2.  One or more unsupported files: XXXX.sdlxliff

3.  Object reference not set to an instance of an object

I tried changing TM, tried using different files, to no avail.

This has never happened to me before. Do you have any ideas about the cause and how to fix this?

  • Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble aligning files in Trados Studio 2019. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Ensure that your Trados Studio 2019 is up to date. You can check for updates within the application.

Step 2: Try to create a new project and import your files there. Sometimes, issues can occur due to project-specific settings.

Step 3: Check if the files you're trying to align are supported by Trados Studio. If they're not, you might need to convert them to a supported format.

Step 4: The error message "Can't open C:/user/[name]/xxxx.sdlalign" suggests that the application can't access the specified file. Make sure the file path is correct and that the file exists.

Step 5: The error message "One or more unsupported files: XXXX.sdlxliff" suggests that the file type might not be supported for alignment. Try converting the file to a different format and then align it.

Step 6: The error message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" is a common programming error and might suggest a bug in the software. If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it might be a good idea to reinstall Trados Studio 2019.

Remember, it's always a good idea to back up your work and translation memories before making any major changes to your software or system.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue. If you continue to experience problems, please let me know.

    Best regards,
