I got an .mxliff file from a client and when trying to create a project and import the file, I am told the file is not a file to translate but is set to "reference file" which is not the case

Anyone any idea on how to solve this (memsource plugin downloaded from the appstore)?

I can see the screen I shared. It tells me the file is a reference file, whereas it is a file for translation (it s what the screen says)
Your issue is compatible with not having installed the plugin or not being active.
I see that the plugin icon (blue) is different than mine (green colour, just installed from the AppStore). Could you please remove the plugin, and then install the las one from the SDL AppStore?

I deleted/reinstalled and now it does not appear anymore.
Still having the blue part showed in my screen but not the one on the left pane anymore now under xliff
it appears in the added components
was there a hidden file to delete?
Did you restart Trados Studio?
Uninstall Memsource plugins, restart Trados Studio, install the new Memsoure plugin from the Appstore, and restart once more time Trados Studio. Does it work now?
I’m missing a screen shot of your File Types settings.

Click on the bue link Des types de fichiers supplementaires […] and check if there is some Memsource file type there. If it’s, please tick it.

Now that you have an up to date plugin installed, you need to rebuild both sdlxliff files. Click the language banner icon on the left in Files view, select your source langiage banner. Then select the file and click remove. This would remove both source and target sdlxliff. Finally, drag and drop the same source file into the same window and click Batch Tasks > Prepare without project TM.
