Error message- Unexpected error when detecting file hype for file SDL XLIFF 1.0 v 1.0.0.0 ־c:\Users\haiii\

Hi- I'm really desparate for help...I opened a new document (Trados 2015) as I always do (actually after this error appeared I tried opening new documents several time and this error repeated itself in all of them). I am able to translate it, and it updates the TM. It even allows me to generate a preview. However, after I close it (pre-translate) it won't open again, and after this error message, quoted, appears - Unexpected error when detecting file hype for file SDL XLIFF 1.0 v 1.0.0.0 ־c:\Users\haiii\- nothing appears, as if the file had been deleated (although it is still on the project list). Did anybody ever encounter this problem? How can it be fixed?

Hi Halli,

I can't think of a reason why this could happen, unless perhaps you have some aggressive clean up tool wiping important information as you work that prevents you from being able to handle the files again afterwards.

Perhaps you can try temporarily deactivating your Antivirus and any other clean up tool you mighyt have running in the background and just see if this makes a difference?

Other possibility is, that the file is physically damaged. Things like this happen for example, when you work with laptop and close the lid before the actual saving process of the file has really been finished. If the file does physically exist, double click it. Should it open, create a new project based on the previous one and use this file as the translatable source file. Should the file still not open, so chances for "healing" it are indeed very little. In such case I would suggest to delete the file from the project in Studio and add the untranslated source file to the very same project again. Then use the batch "Pretranslate" and continue translating from that point.

Thanks to you too- however, I tried deleting the files (plural...) and start a new project with those documents once again. Before deleteing them I tried to open them, however the same error message appeared...

So the files are damaged. Chances to repair them are very little, therefore it is advisable to start a new project based on the one with damaged files or to remove the damaged files in the project and replace them by untranslated source documents. Then use the TM for pretranslation to get the same stand as before the files were damaged.
