Settings in QA Checker

Dear colleagues,

For some time now, I always have to tick the boxes in the QA checker for each project when I want Trados to indicate if there are any errors. When I tick all the boxes I need in the options, these erros are not indicated, if I do the same in the project settings, it works. What do I do wrong? Can anybody help?

Thanks a lot

kind regards

Ina

  • Hello Ina,

It seems like you're experiencing an issue where your QA Checker settings are not being saved or carried over for each project in Trados Studio. This is a known issue, especially when working with cloud projects or packages from Trados Team.

Here's a workaround you can use until the issue is resolved:

Step 1: Open your project in Trados Studio.

Step 2: Navigate to Project Settings > Verification > QA Checker 3.0.

Step 3: Manually update the QA Checker settings as per your requirements.

    Step 4: Save the settings.

Please note that you'll need to do this for each project until the issue is fixed. I understand that this might be inconvenient, but it's a temporary solution to ensure your QA Checker settings are applied correctly.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,

    Dear Ina,

Project Settings (those set via Project settings) always overrule profile settings (those set via File>Options).

If you create a project yourself via Projects > New, that project will contain the same settings as those you have set in your profile via File>Options.

Similarly, if you work via Translate Single Document, it will be governed by your profile settings made via File>Options.

Any project created externally, by a client through a package for example, will not have your profile settings, but those of the client. So, as AI says, you'll need to change any settings to your preferences individually in each project.

It may seem a pain but actually it protects any incoming settings or extras that need to be part of the project for correct work, e.g. file types.

It also protects your profile settings and keeps things clean and tidy.

One more thing, there are profile settings that are not affected by the project settings because they're not present in the project settings, but are global settings.

All settings under File > Options > Editor, for example:Trados Studio Options dialog box showing Editor settings with options for Startup, Opening files, Side-by-side editor, Review and Sign-off, and AutoSave.

Plus items such as colours, keyboard shortcuts... so, any settings that aren't present in the Project settings.

When you create a project, it will contain the settings under File>Options, your 'profile settings'. You can alternatively base a new project on it on a previous project so it will use the same settings, or on a project template that you have already created (for a specific client or language pair, for example)...

    I hope this helps!

    All the best,

    Ali Slight smile

  • Dear Ali,

Thank you very much for your detailed answer and sorry for answering so late. Yes, the procedure you wrote is the one I would expect. However, I have the checking of numbers activated under File>Options, but when I create a new own project (not an external one) it does not adopt this, so I have to check the boxes for the number check again. Some time ago, this was no problem, with every new project, the numbers were checked. I just realized that this is no longer the case.

    Best regards

How do you create this external project? If you do it with a project template, then the QA settings embedded in that template will be used.

    Dear Ina,

Sorry I didn't see this, have been busy with preparations for the festive season. Last minute as always.

Jesús has asked a logical question, if you're using a project template (or basing a new project on a previous one) then the settings from that template/project will apply.

When you say 'checking of numbers', do you mean the QA settings or a plug-in such as Trados Number Verifier?

Alternatively, are you referring to the number settings under Translation Memory and Auto-substitution?

Under Options this appears like this

Trados Studio Options menu showing Auto-substitution settings for all language pairs with checkboxes for Dates, Times, Alphanumeric Strings, Numbers, Measurements, Variables, and Acronyms.

Trados Studio Auto-substitution settings for Dates and Times with format options for long date, short date, long time, short time, and a checked box for 'For TM matches, copy the TM format'.

Trados Studio Auto-substitution settings for Measurements with options for spacing between number and unit, including the same as TM, never use a space, always insert a normal space, non-breaking space, or custom space.

Trados Studio Auto-substitution settings for Numbers and Currency showing options for thousand and decimal separators, examples, and a checked box for 'For TM matches, copy the TM format'.

These settings are based on language pairs, rather than on All language pairs.

There are also settings in any Translation Memory that may overrule those set under File>Options:

Trados Studio Translation Memory Settings showing recognition options for Dates, Times, Numbers, Acronyms, Variables, Measurements, Alphanumeric strings, and language-specific settings for English (UK) and French (France).

Can you post an image of the settings you're referring to?

No rush, Christmas is upon us!

All the best to one and all for a wonderful Christmas and year 2024!

  • Dear Alison and Jesús,

Thank you very much for your answers. Thanks to your information I have now found the solution to the problem. As you correctly said, when the settings are not correct in the template, it is not adopted in my project. However, I did only now see where I can alter the settings for the templates (i. e. in the last step of creating my project, "All project settings"). Now everything is as I want it. Slight smile

Thanks again, have a great year 2024

  • Hello

I am getting a little late into this thread, but I am surprised that nobody mentioned the possibility of creating a personal QA-checker profile, exporting/saving it in a place of one's choice and later importing it into the project settings of any new project, let it be a totally new one or one based on a template or a previous project. Or did I miss anything in this already lengthy thread and are Ina's worries anything different/more particular?

    Happy New Year!

  • Dear Gérard, Thank you very much for your reply. While my problem is solved meanwhile I would nevertheless be interested in creating this personal QA checker profile. How can I do this?

    Best

  • Hello

I did it 6 years ago for my own use: I will try to rememberSmile (Moreover, my Studio UI is in French).

    1. You open Studio⇒Home⇒File (upper left corner)⇒Options⇒QA Checker 3.0
    2. You go through all the settings (all lines but the last one) and select the options which best suit your needs and habits.
    3. When you are through with all the settings, you open the last line (QA checker profiles)⇒Export settings and thus save what will be your personal QA Checker profile (*.SDLQASETTINGS file) in a place in your C:\ or D:\ drive and with a name easy to be remembered.

Later, when you create a new project, wholly new or based on a previous project or a template, or when you receive one from a client in a project package, in the project pane you open Prolect settings (upper left corner)QA Checker 3.0⇒QA checker profiles⇒Import settings ant that's it! Of course, if you know for sure that the template or the previous project used to create a new project already incorporates your personal QA Checker profile, this last step is useless (Ce qui va sans dire va encore mieux en le disant - TALLEYRANDLaughing).

    Best regards.
