Importing a bilingual file in DOCX format from Phrase Memsource into Trados

Hi Everyone,

I have Trados 2021 and was trying to import a bilingual file in DOCX format from Phrase Memsource into Trados. The file did not import well. The Source and Target languages both ended up in the Source pane of Trados Editor. Since I had translation memory, the translation came out in the Target pane.
The word count of the imported file was twice as much as the original source file.
Does anybody know how to import a bilingual file in DOCX format from Phrase Memsource into Trados 2021 and have the source in the source pane and the target language in the target pane?

  • Hello,

To import a bilingual DOCX file from Phrase Memsource into Trados 2021, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio 2021.

Step 2: Click on "File" in the top menu, then select "Open Document".

Step 3: Navigate to the location of your bilingual DOCX file and select it.

Step 4: In the "Open Document" dialog box, ensure that the file type is set to "Microsoft Word 2007-2016".

    Step 5: Click on "Open".

If the source and target languages are still appearing in the source pane, it may be due to the formatting of the bilingual file from Phrase Memsource. Trados Studio 2021 expects the source and target text to be in separate segments. If they are not, the software may not be able to correctly identify and separate the source and target text.

To resolve this, you may need to adjust the formatting of your bilingual file in Phrase Memsource before importing it into Trados Studio 2021. Ensure that the source and target text are in separate segments, and that there are no additional tags or formatting that could be causing confusion during the import process.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
