Error messages when opening a file for translation

Hello!

I've just bought Trados Studio 2015 (this is the first time I use this tool) and every time I double click on the files I want to translate, message errors appear. For example, for one file the following message appears : "Unexpected exception when getting view part instance of view part Résultats de la traduction" ; and for another file : "Impossible de charger une procédure importée par Sdl.DesktopEditor.Control.dll".   If you have already experienced this kind of situation, could you please help me to understand what's going on? Thanks a lot in advance! Best Sophie

  • Why do you double click the files? This is not the way Studio should be used. Instead of this, start Studio first. Then using the Navigation pane (on the left) go to Projects View. Select a project you want to work on now, double click it. This will bring you to the File View, from where you open the files for translation. If the project you wish is already selected (its name is printed in bold), go to Files View instead and open the file from there.
As the next step go to View menu and use "Reset window layout" command. Should the file not open, switch to the Editor View, "Reset window layout" in empty editor and then repeat the steps above to open the file for translation.
DO NOT open files by double clicking them.

  • Hi! Thanks a lot for your answer. The user guide I have have says : "double click on the first file in your project that you want to start translating to open the file. The Editor window opens". But maybe the guide is not totally appropriate, so I will follow your advice and see if the problem is solved. Thanks again!
  • The guide should say "Double click on the first file in Files View". If this is what you're doing, than it works. What I have understood is, that you double click on the files in the Explorer. This would have been inappropriate.
Please try to "Reset window layout" (go to Editor View, then select the View ribbon on top and then "Reset window layout"). This could help to solve your problem with opening files.
