Exporting comments into Word for review

Question

I have a sdlxliff (created inStudio 2011), but comments don't export to Word from Studio 2015. Is there any way I can export them so they can be read in Word?

 The reason is that this option to preserve SDLXLIFF comments in the target WORD has only been introduced recently and only for the DOCX format. 
 You can control this behaviour through the following option:

Is it a DOCX or a DOC file? AFAIK, comments aren't exported in DOC files.

That may well be why - it's a DOC. 
 
In theory, if I wanted to be able to export comments into a target Word file, would I have to export to DOCX? I guess I'd need to save the source file as DOCX before it was translated for Studio to give me the option to export to DOCX?

Are these comments that were in the original word file or comments you (or someone else) have added in the sdlxliff? Have you tried the export for external review or just the save target as to Word?
