How do I create a bilingual file that contains modified target segments?

Dear Studio 2015 experts,

I remember seeing a similar question before, but I can't remember where I saw it nor the answer to it.  So here is my question (again):

I am editing a Studio project that has over 80 files.  Since some of the files did not have any edits, I figure it's easier just to send the edited segments in a bilingual spreadsheet or Word document for the translator to validate.  (Sending edited files would be fine, but then I need to keep a log of which files have changes)  Is there a way within Studio or with an app to export only the edited segments after I virtual merge all the files and filter in the segments with changes?  

The translator uses the 2011 version, so unfortunately she can't do a virtual merge and identify the edited segments like I would do.

    Hi Chun-yi,

    If the project is all set as status "Translated" then you could use the SDLXLIFF Toolkit to export an SDLXLIFF that contained only "Draft" segments (these would be the ones you edited) and then create a Word file for review from this.  But it's a bit messy because then you would update this SDLXLIFF from the reviewed word file and then update your TM from that, and finally your actual Project files from your updated TM.

    So the preferred way would be to use the OpenExchange version of the Export for External Review as this has additional options that help here.  Don't forget this app is installed with Studio 2011, 2014 and 2015 so you don't need to go and get it and you use these options for example (based on the scenario above):

    This way you don't need to mess around so much as you only export/import what you need directly from the project.  But I think if you wanted to have one Word file for this then you'd probably have to actually merge the files when you create your Project and don't use the Virtual Merge.

    Hi Paul,

    Thank you for the ideas. I think it's probably a better idea to send the edited files to the translator instead of compiling the edited segments in a Word document. I noticed that Studio 2015 actually lists the files without edits as Translation Approved and the ones with edits as Translation Rejected. After I finish editing, I will simply sort the Status so that the files in Translation Rejected will be listed together. That way I can quickly find which files to send for validation.
    I was going to send her everything in the target folder after I review the files and ask her to find the ones in Translation Rejected status, but unfortunately Studio 2011 only labels the status of the test files I sent her as Translated--not enough information to know which files have edits. Hopefully this will motivate my colleague to upgrade to the latest Studio version:)
