Term recognition: plural nous and verb tenses not recognised

Hello everyone,

What should I do so that a noun that is in singular or a verb that is in infinitive in my glossary, are recognised when they appear in plural or past tense in the source text?

I thought it would be automatic, but it doesn't seem to.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello Xavier C.,

It seems like you're having trouble with term recognition in Trados Studio, specifically with plural nouns and different verb tenses. Here's how you can improve term recognition:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and go to "File" > "Options" > "Language Pairs" > "All Language Pairs" > "Termbases" > "Search Settings".

Step 2: In the "Search Settings", you will find an option called "Recognize inflected forms". Make sure this option is checked. This will allow Trados Studio to recognize different forms of a word, such as plurals or past tense verbs.

Step 3: Click "OK" to confirm the changes.

Step 4: Restart Trados Studio to make sure the changes are applied correctly.

Please note that term recognition in Trados Studio is based on the language resources and settings you have. It may not always recognize all forms of a word, especially for languages with complex morphology. However, enabling the "Recognize inflected forms" option should improve the recognition of plural nouns and different verb tenses.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,

Paul beat me to it! I wanted to suggest you play with the minimum match value if you use a file-based TB:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's Search Settings with 'For file-based TBs' note, showing options like 'Show recognized terms with no available translation' and sliders for 'Minimum match value %', 'Search depth', and 'Term repetition threshold'.

For cloud termbases you can use the standard settings or "linguistic" settings.

    Standard:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's Cloud-based Terminology Settings with 'Fuzzy search' selected, displaying options for 'Minimum Score' and 'Similarity' with sliders and checkboxes for term recognition settings.

    Linguistic:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's Cloud-based Terminology Settings with 'Linguistic search' selected, showing options for 'Minimum Score' with 'Same root words' selected and checkboxes for additional term recognition settings.

Linguistic should give you better results. There are some limitations with the Essential cloud package (the one that comes with Trados Studio), so make sure this is a good fit for you.
