That is not true. AI does not need a deep understanding of context to identify a clearly wrong translation, for example translating English "yes" as German "nein".

I often find this sort of conversation a little puzzling in many ways.  If AI (and NMT is AI) was capable of identifying an incorrect translation and always being 100% correct then what would we need human translators for?

You could use the AI assistant for this by creating a custom prompt to deliver what you want checked.  Have you tried that?  This would work interactively, and dependent on your prompt and the context (some texts may be very domain specific and the AI could easily get this wrong for example).  If you wanted a batch task capability for this then the answer for now is no... we don't have this capability yet.  It could be done fairly easily I think using a verification plugin... so maybe something else for a developer to try, or indeed for us to add to the current capabilities.

Maybe a use case will help: A translator has a large translation memory which contains many grammar errors. The time which would be required to inspect each segment is enormous. The translator needs a tool that can scan the source and target of a TM to find (simple) translation errors.

Always helps.  The quick answer is there is no tool in Trados to do this specifically as there are no QA tools available for checking a TM.  You could export to TMX and do this in bite sized chunks in the editor but clearly a very time intensive and most likely impractical solution for your needs.

I do think this could be done, especially using AI, and it might not be that difficult either.  But to date we have nothing in the Trados space to provide a solution for this.
