How can I recover an ongoing project in Trados Studios 2022?

I had a job almost 80% translated (ENG-BrPT) in Trados Studio 2022 Freelance and suddently the program started to slow down pace and simply closed.

When I reopened it, that specific package had disappeared. I can download it again, sure, but how can I recover all the work done?

  • Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing. Here are some steps you can take to recover your project:

Step 1: Run Trados Studio as an administrator. You can do this by searching for Trados Studio in the Windows search bar and selecting 'Run as Administrator' on the right side.

Step 2: Check the location of the projects.xml file in Trados Studio. This file contains information about your projects and should be located in the following directory: C:\Users\username\Documents\Studio 2022\Projects.

Step 3: Make sure the projects.xml file is not set to 'Read-only'. You can check this by right-clicking on the file, selecting 'Properties', and ensuring the 'Read-only' box is not checked.

Step 4: If the above steps don't work, you can try to recover your project from the Autosave files. Trados Studio automatically saves your work every 10 minutes by default. You can find these files in the 'Autosave' folder in your project's directory.

Step 5: If you still can't recover your project, you may need to download the package again and import any translation memories or termbases you used in the project. This should allow you to recover most of your work, as Trados Studio uses these resources to automatically translate segments that match those in the memory or termbase.

I hope these steps help you recover your project. If you continue to experience issues, please let me know.

    Best regards,

Every job you worked on in Studio has a .SDLPROJ file and a project folder which contains the bilingual SDLXLIFF file you worked on. Unless you deleted it, this file is still there.
If you find the .SDLPROJ file, double-click it to reopen your project.
If this does not work, you can open the SDLXILFF file in your Editor and go on working.

  • Hi, Walter, thanks! The biiiiiig problem is that I did not find the .SDLPROJ file, nor could open it on my Editor because all info had vanished. The only thing I could access was an empty folder and the only part with the PTBr language opened a totally erased file, i.e., all the work had disappeared. I sincerely was in shock!
