  • Hi Tamayo,

Yes, Studio can read a Japanese Word file and it's translated English file to use as a dictionary.  The process you would go through is this because you need to convert these into either a MultiTerm termbase or a Translation Memory.

    Alignment

    1. Create an Alignment project in Studio and make sure that the source and target segments are correctly aligned
    2. Update the correct Alignment into a Translation Memory

    Using a Translation Memory (TM)

    1. Since Studio 2015 comes with an enhanced AutoSuggest feature you could now attach the TM you have created to your projects and receive autosuggest results as you type relevant to this TM.
    2. Note: Not the most effoicient way to use this but I think it would work

    Using a Termbase (TB)

    1. Export the TM you have created to TMX
    2. Use the Glossary Converter from the OpenExchange to convert the TMX to a TB
    3. Now you can attach a proper MultiTerm TB to each project and have full terminology features from your files

What's an electronc dictionary?  These come in many forms.  Out of the box I'd say no, unless it was in MultiTerm format, or hunspell for spellchecking against the dictionary.  But under the hood a developer could use the APIs to integrate with an electronc dictionary if the provider of the dictionary allowed it.
