Go to Projects view, select the project for which you need the statistics by right clicking it and selecting "Set as Active". Then go to "Batch Tasks" and select "Analyse Files". Let it run or adapt the parameters as needed. That's it.

TM is always a component that you need to build a project. You can't calculate statistics for multiple projects based on just one component of a single project in one go. You can use the same component/TM for n different projects, but still you have to run the Analyze Files batch task n times, one for each project. (Imagine your TM file is a crane. You can move the crane to build five different projects one after the other but you can't use the crane to build five projects simultaneously.)
If you want to reuse the same TM over a long time, you can create a project and add/remove files within that project rather than create a new project every time you receive a new translation file/job. "Superprojects" like that save the time and HDD space you normally spend to create projects again and again.
*TM = "memory file"
I think you’re after some kind of reporting to help you maintain your TM rather than an analysis of files for translation.
If this is the case can you share some things you’re looking for?

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but your question was not clear to me.
When you open the TM in the TM view you can get the basics statistics with the number of segments there. Should you wish to know the number of words, export the TM to TMX and create a project with this TMX. Then you'll be able to get more detailed insight in your TM. However, please note, that this might not work for huge translation memories.
