What is this frame, and what can I use it for?

I noticed recently that using Alt+Arrow up/down keys I can get Studio to put a frame around target segments:

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing two segments. Segment 1 has a black frame around the target text 'Einige Inhalte hier.' Segment 2 target text is 'Weitere Informationen finden Sie hier,' partially obscured by a cursor.

(I mean the black frame around the target segment 1.)

But I can't see how I can use this, such as “copy text” or “move active segment” etc. Does anybody know what this frame is, and what it is used for?

  • The only use I could find for that is selecting segments with your keyboard if you hate mice. Press and hold Shift+Alt and press the arrow up/down key to select multiple segments including the active one (then you can lock or merge them for example). The commands are called Focus Next Row (Alt+) and Focus Previous Row (Alt+↑). If you don't press the Alt key, it would select based on characters rather than segments.
The other use involves pressing the space bar when you keep pressing Alt. This would select the segment highlighted in the black frame, and this is how you can select non-consequtive segments (same as with Ctrl+click the segment number).
