Target not set in Language Weaver in Trados 2024

I am new to Language Weaver and have not been successful in using it in Trados Studio 2024. I can select Language Weaver Provider in All language pairs, but after logging in to Language Weaver Cloud with my RWS credentials I get this screen where it says target "Not set". I have not been able to get any further.

Screenshot of Language Weaver Cloud settings in Trados Studio showing language pairs with 'Not set' in the Target column and 'No model available' in the Model column.

When i Confirm, I get this screenshot:

Information popup window stating 'The translation provider Language Weaver Cloud does not support any language pair in this project or project template. Consider using AnyTM to add your translation memory.'

The suggested AnyTM option does not work for Language Weaver. I would be most grateful if anyone can help me out. I have used Trados for many years, but previously only Studio 2019 with the neural TM.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more information about the error message you receive when you try to set the target language in Language Weaver. Also, it would be helpful to know the exact version of Trados Studio 2024 you are using and your operating system.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems like you're having trouble setting the target language in Language Weaver within Trados Studio 2024. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot this issue:

Step 1: Ensure you are logged into your RWS account in Trados Studio. If you're not, please log in.

Step 2: Check if you have set up Language Weaver correctly. In your project settings, under 'Translation Memory and Automated Translation', choose 'Use: Cloud-based resources...' and save your settings. This should allow you to see the 'Language Weaver' option in the 'Automated Translation' section.

Step 3: If you have already done this and still can't set the target language, it might be a problem with your Language Weaver settings. Please check if you have the necessary permissions to set the target language in Language Weaver.

Step 4: If the problem persists, it might be a good idea to reinstall Trados Studio 2024 and try again.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

  • Not sure about Step 3, if there is some Language Weaver Settings that are not right and how to correct them.

Sorry this is so late... maybe you have resolved this already?  Anyway, I tested this by adding other languages to make sure I was accessing Language Weaver correctly, and I am:

Language Weaver Cloud interface for Trados Studio showing a list of language pairs with 'Not set' for Norwegian Bokmal models and dictionaries, indicating a configuration issue.

Yet I see the same as you.  So, first thing I checked was the Language Weaver portal here:

    https://portal.languageweaver.com/settings/language-pairs

In there I can see Norwegian... a generic Norwegian... is supported:

Language Weaver portal settings showing 'Norwegian to English' language pair as active with available linguistic options, but no specific model selected.

So, I then go to my Language Mappings in (1) from my first screenshot and search for Norwegian:

Language Weaver Provider mapping interface with a search for 'norwegian' showing Trados codes and regions for Norwegian Bokmal and Nynorsk, with a highlighted section for language codes.

No language codes for Language Weaver are mapped.  This might be because the mappings have not been updated for a long time ( ,

) and whilst you can easily add whatever you need they should be updated so they represent the current available languages.  To find the code for this click on the link at (2) and you'll find this:

Screenshot of Language Weaver API documentation displaying a list of languages with an arrow pointing to the three-letter code 'nor' for Norwegian.

Take the three letter code and add it into your settings like this:

Table showing language mapping for Norwegian Bokmal and Nynorsk with regions and corresponding Trados and language codes.

Apply the change and go back to your original settings where you should see they are all available to you:

Updated Language Weaver Cloud interface for Trados Studio with Norwegian Bokmal language pairs now set to 'nor' with a generic model, resolving the previous configuration issue.

The other solution, since the one above is using the plugin, would be to work with  "Cloud-based resources" where you will see this immediately with no messing around because the core product has kept pace with the available languages:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's Cloud-based Resources window showing Machine Translation options with source language English (United Kingdom) and target languages Romanian (Romania) and Norwegian Bokmal (Norway), both using Generic - NMT models.
