No access to NMT in Trados Studio 2019

Hello,

I am working with Trados Studio 2019 and I would like to pretranslate a file with a personal TM (only for 100% Matches as there are hardly any fuzzies according to my analysis) and with NMT (for all the other segments).

The pre-translation worked fine for the 100% matches which now show the target coming from my TM.

However, as to the No Match segments, they are still empty and no NMT is shown.

In the message window, I can read: An error occurred while using the translation provider SDL Machine translation: No entitlement found.

I've seen on the forum that Fotini Pipi had exactly the same problem on Dec. 17th 2024 but unfortunately no solution was provided on the forum.

Some more details:

- Trados Studio 2019

- I made sure I am connected to my Trados account: My name is shown in the upper right-hand corner

- Project Settings/All Lanaugage Pairs/Translation Memory and Automated Translation is empty whereas Project Settings/English-German/Translation Memory and Automated Translation contains SDL Language Cloud as well as my personal TM.

- In Project Settings/English-German/Batch processing/Pre-translate files the option Apply automated translation is chosen

- Not only did the pre-translation with NMT not work, but NMT isn't shown either when I click in the target column of individual segments

I'd be very grateful if someone could help and I add two screenshots below.

Thank you,

Lucia

  • Hi , not sure if this is the right forum 'developers' to ask this specific question related to your subscription.  You'd probably get better support from users on the Trados Apps forum.

The error message "No entitlement found" indicates that Trados Studio is unable to access the SDL Machine Translation service because it doesn't recognize a valid subscription or license (entitlement) associated with your account for this service.
Since you're using Trados Studio 2019, there have been some changes in the way machine translation services are accessed due to rebranding and service updates by RWS (formerly SDL). The SDL Language Cloud has also evolved, and newer services like Language Weaver.

The only thing I can recommend are the following:

    1. Verify Your Entitlement to Machine Translation Services

    • Check Your RWS Account Subscription:
    • Log in to your RWS (SDL) account at [RWS Account Login](oos.sdl.com/.../account).
    • Navigate to "Licenses" or "Subscriptions".
    • Verify if you have an active subscription for SDL Machine Translation Cloud or Language Weaver.
    • Note: The basic Trados Studio license may not include access to NMT services. Machine translation often requires a separate subscription.

    - Purchase or Activate a Subscription:

    • If you don't have an active subscription, you'll need to purchase one.
    • Visit the [Language Weaver website](www.rws.com/.../) to explore subscription options.
    • Alternatively, contact RWS sales support for assistance.

    2. Update Trados Studio 2019 to the Latest Version?

    3. Install the Language Weaver Cloud Plugin?

    4. Alternative Tips

    Firewall and Network Settings

Ensure that your network or firewall settings aren't blocking Trados Studio from accessing online services.

    • Add exceptions if necessary.

    Language Pairs Settings

    • While you've configured settings under "English-German", for consistency, consider setting up under "All Language Pairs" if you work with multiple pairs.
  • Dear Patrick,

    Thank you for your answer.

In order to be able to work, I installed yesterday the Language Weaver Cloud Plugin and this worked.

Still, I don't understand why I am not longer able to access NMT via Project Settings/All Language Pairs/Translation Memory and Automated Translations/SDL Language Cloud as this used to work in the past and no special subscription (apart from the Trados licence) was necessary.

I'll certainly have a look at the network and firewall settings - maybe the solution to my problem lies there.

Thank you for the useful tips.

  • Thanks Lucia - Trados Studio 2019 has been out of support for a while, and this can mean that certain functionality (especially cloud based) can stop working as we cannot guarantee to maintain the service. It's great to hear that the LW plug-in works though, so this is just to give you an explanation of why this can stop working. Thanks, Daniel

  • I can't say that I am happy about this but thank you for the explanation, Daniel.
