Studio 2024 installing but not working

After working with a trial version of Studio 2024, I decided I might venture investing in it hoping for some return on the investment. So, today I purchased a licence. I started working on my project - which happens to be due tomorrow - and was hoping for as carefree a use as I had experienced during the trial period. I couldn't have been more wrong. The problem started when I found out I couldn't search for words or phrases within the text (Ctrl+F didn't work and the search feature in the ribbon was greyed out. I noticed there was an update available in the side panel. I thought: "hey, who knows that might fix it". Again, how wrong was I. Not only was the search issue not solved, Studio didn't even show. The mask, yes, all sorts of background operations, seemed to be going on too. And then: nothing! I've tried everything I could think of. I'm a simple user, I'm not getting excited in a positive way when software that is supposed to help me (and at what price!) is in fact making my life difficult and might make my client very unhappy. For indeed: I am using it for one client only (all others have moved to online platforms - with usually a responsive helpdesk).

I'm not expecting any useful answer within the time window I have available. I've already hoped too much in vain today. I seriously regret my purchase, it's been a waste of money and a waste of time. Yet, I will be so very grateful to anyone who can help me feel slightly less ripped off.

  • Hi Elisa,

Thank you for responding. No it isn't. Now even my licence for Studio 2014 has gone up in smoke. As for 2024: all I'm seeing is the mask doing all kinds of things, such as loading stuff (application modules, extensions), plugins, and executing things, and then nothing.

    Is this fixable you think?

For now, I am going to return to using my very ancient but very reliable and sober memoQ 6.2. It can't integrate Juremy and it doesn't show hard spaces (to think this specific feature is why I decided to convert to Studio 2024), but at least it's working (plus it gives you the option of showing source and target in a top-bottom view instead of the unadaptable left-right view which Trados can offer ever since they buried TagEditor).

You do have access to Trados Cloud and there you can switch the views to "top-bottom" if this is what you prefer?  The online editor is pretty good and does offer other advantages since it's a browser and you have access to all sorts of extensions related to language.
