Overwrite CM/100% segments while translating

Dear Community!

A question related to the TM management.

In our company we share common TMs for each pair of languages we are working with. After 12 years our TMs are full of duplicated segments created by different users, some of them real garbage, others are ok, but improvable.

However, they are all kept in the TMs, though absolutely unnecessary.

The question is: how can I set my Trados to overwriting CM or 100% responses. In my case, there is always a new segment created indicating Created by A and Modified by B, for example. And the "original" one still appears in the Translation Results window. I often go to the results window and delete it, but it´s tiem-consuming and almost noone else does it. So the TMs keep accumulating all this rubbish.

Sure, there exist some solution to it!

Thanks in advance!

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide the version of Trados Studio you are using and any error messages you might be encountering. Also, it would be helpful to know if you have tried any troubleshooting steps already.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems like you're dealing with a common issue in translation memory management. Here are some steps you can take to manage your TMs more effectively:

Step 1: Use the 'Update Main Translation Memories' batch task. This will update your TM with the translations you've made in your project. If you have the 'Overwrite existing translation units' option checked, it will replace the existing units in the TM with your new translations.

Step 2: Regularly clean your TMs. Trados Studio has a feature called 'Clean Up' which allows you to remove unnecessary segments from your TMs. You can find this option in the Translation Memories view.

Step 3: Use the 'Translation Quality Assessment' (TQA) feature. This allows you to rate the quality of translations in your TM and can help you identify and remove low-quality segments.

Step 4: Consider using the 'Advanced Translation Memory Management' feature. This allows you to set rules for how Trados Studio uses and updates your TMs, which can help prevent the accumulation of unnecessary segments.

Remember, it's important to regularly maintain and clean your TMs to ensure they remain effective and useful.
